December 30, 2011 SYDNEY

Today we went to the Sydney Olympic Park. Andrew is doing his thesis on the reuse and re-adaptation of olympic parks so it was interesting to see that they haven't really done anything new or different with the space. Its basically still just a park where people can go and see the venues.

It was extremely hot out. I'm so sunburned! We had two papers due this morning on Whale Rider and Australia and a test on A Sunburned Country. We had a break for a couple of hours so Ben Patrick Stuart and I ran to Subway to get some lunch. We went to the Sydney olympic park afterwards and walked around for a few hours. It was the first time I have eaten McDonald's since we got here! Then went to circular key and caught a ferry across the harbour. It was so beautiful. We went to a beach and i played in the water and watched some poor girl get rescued from almost drowning in the rip current. Then we went to a bar called the sugar bar and had five dollar pizzas and five dollar jack and cokes. We rode the ferry back and I thought Patrick was going to barf on me because he hates boats. And now we are back here catching up on our blogs before heading out for a night on the town

Today the whether is a little cooler and a bit overcast. We woke up this morning and headed out to the sydney harbour bridge. We went to the bridges museum and also went in the observation towers. I wanted to do the bridge climb but its extremely expensive and most likely way overbooked. We then went to the museum of sydney but most of us were starving at this point so we didn't really take as much interest in it as we could have. Afterwards we went to a restaurant called Pancakes on the rocks. It was breakfast food for lunch! After that Ben, Emily, Patrick, and I got extremely lost trying to find our way back to the college and decided it was time for some drinking. We went to Bar Broadway and had a few jugs (FYI: don't call them "pitchers" or the aussie bartender will bite your face off) then we came back and passed out. after two days with jet lag it was time for some serious sleep.

This is our dorm. Ridiculous. Right?
Today is the first day we are in Sydney Australia. We arrived this morning around 9 o clock and left straight from the airport to go to our dorm rooms. The college of Sydney literally looks like Hogwarts. Then we changed, headed out, and went down to circular quay which is one of the most popular sports in sydney to view the sydney harbour bridge and the opera house. In Circular Quay we watched a contortionist who was just a tiny bit bigger than me fit herself into a 16 inch cube. It was ridiculous. Then we went to the Royal Botanical Gardens where we saw beautiful landscapes and some crazy birds and bats. I've never seen bats as big as the ones here before. After that we were pretty much done for the day and found a place to eat together and then headed back to catch some shuteye after a lone 24 hours of flying.
